Why should I put my child in a music class? All children are born with an amazing array of musical skills, being able to detect rhythm and pitch and cadence. These abilities are really very sensitive and ingrained, however, the brain does undergo a “self-pruning” process during the first three years of life. If an area of the brain is not being used, it will go dormant. When children are raised in a “music-rich” environment, those abilities stay strong, with all the developmental benefits that go with them. Those benefits are really huge; musical abilities lend themselves to strengthen all other developmental domains; language, social, fine and large motor skills, and cognitive functions are all supported by the brain processes that are used in musical activities. It is therefore immensely important that children be given the opportunity to grow in a “music-rich” environment that allows them to play joyfully with music in many ways, keeping those areas of the brain active and strong! What is your background? I have been teaching Kindermusik for almost a full decade now! I took a little time off to create my studio classroom in my own home, and am just loving getting my program going again. I love having small classes that are not overwhelming to young children, but are still busy and active and full of fun! Besides teaching Kindermusik, I have a background as a preschool teacher and children’s ministry director, as well as being a musician personally with my beloved harp. Kindermusik really provides me with the opportunity to combine two of my greatest passions--early childhood and music—in one wonderful way to be a support to parents.

A Kindermusik class is specially designed to stimulate all developmental domains during a joy-filled forty-five minute period, using both guided activities and open exploration in a child-friendly format. The focus is not on getting children to become “miniature Mozarts” or to perform at a certain level, but instead to enrich and grow musical learning in natural ways. Besides the wonderful small-group class experiences, Kindermusik has developed unique “At-Home” Materials, that allow parents to continue the musical fun all week. In these kits, parents have access to all the music used in class through excellent CDs, lyric books, story books, child safe instruments, and a parent guide that explains all the “whys” of the class activities. The classroom experience can then turn into just the tip of the iceberg for your child’s “music-rich” environment, with the kit equipping you to keep up the fun—and the learning—at home!
